making international callsBased upon many conversations with customers, family and friends, we believe with a great deal of certainty that most people think the average cost to make an international call from their cell phone is very expensive; certainly too expensive to offset the convenience factor. Actually, the key to making a cheap international call from your cell phone (saving up to 95% on the cost of the call) is based upon how you dial.

By dialing directly from your cell phone to an international phone number without an international calling plan or a prepaid phone card you will incur a very expensive per minute cost. You can subscribe to an international calling plan offered by your current cell phone provider, but convenience may still be overshadowed by cost (plan’s monthly fees plus high international rates). Or, you can buy a prepaid phone card for very inexpensive international rates.

A Prepaid Phone Card is Convenient to Use with Your Cell Phone

We all value the many conveniences that our cell phones offer, especially the freedom to make a phone call from and to virtually anywhere world wide, hassle free. (Read on …)

What does VOIP mean? – A Guide to Understanding the Basics

Simply put VoIP is a protocol that allows for a computer to make a voice communication over the internet. A computer can call a computer, or it could even covert the signal and call an ordinary phone. With VoIP a user can call using a computer, a phone made special for VoIP or a normal phone equipped with a VoIP adapter. VoIP can also be accessed wirelessly in certain areas where such a connection is available such as internet cafes and other such hotspots. Simply put, VoIP allows people to talk over the internet just as one would over the phone.

In order to take advantage of VoIP the user will need a broadband high speed internet connection. Cable modems as well as services like DSL or even a local area network will fit this requirement. The other thing needed is either a computer, a specialized phone or an adapter for a traditional phone. Either the computer or the VoIP phone would work better as some VoIP services will not recognize the adapter and will not function as a result. If the computer is the preferred method then specific software will need to be installed and a microphone will need to be connected. Other than the fact that the VoIP phone will attach directly to the broadband connection, it works like a normal phone. (Read on …)

Apple iPhone + Phone Card = Cheap International Calls

Filed under: Calling Cards, International Calling Cards, Phone Cards — phonecards at 1:58 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2009  Tagged , , ,

Do you own an Apple iPhone and make international calls? Do you know that you can use your iPhone to make cheap international phone calls from the USA? You can! Here’s how.

Use a Prepaid International Phone Card

You can save up to 95% on your international calling costs (hundreds to thousands of dollars per year) whenever you use your Apple iPhone and a phone card to make international calls–instead of direct dialing. Assuming you want to save money on all of your international phone calls, take the first step towards incredible savings by finding a reputable prepaid phone cards retailer.

While you can buy a phone card from virtually any convenience or liquor store, consider saving some gas and time by beginning your search on Google, Yahoo, or MSN Live. After executing your search, click through the search results to get a quick feel for each of the listed retailers.

Note: Comparing the search results for prepaid phone cards on more than one search engine can help you to more easily identify companies that the search engines feel are the most relevant to your search, and likely the better places to buy phone cards.

Next, whittle your choices down to a couple of phone card retailers you like, and compare their international rates and other features (i.e. rechargeable, PINless dialing, etc.). After you feel satisfied with a particular retailer, buy one or view our 10 additional tips for buying the right phone card for your needs.

Note: In most cases, the advertised minutes are based upon the customer using all of the minutes on one phone call. Try to purchase the lowest denomination of phone card whenever possible to help you maximize your minutes.

Great! You’ve successfully purchased a phone card. You are now ready to make an international call from your iPhone. Your card’s dialing instructions can be found in an email or on the retailer’s website. If you purchased a phone card over-the-counter, you will find the international dialing instructions on the back of the card.

Note: In most cases, the advertised minutes are based upon the customer using all of the minutes on one phone call. Try to purchase the lowest denomination of phone card whenever possible to help you maximize your minutes.

Phone Card Dialing Instructions for Your Apple iPhone

These are standard international dialing instructions. Please always check your card’s specific dialing instructions before attempting to make any phone call.

Step 1: Dial your phone card’s Access Number
Step 2: When prompted, enter the phone card’s PIN number.
Step 3: Dial 011 + country code + city code + phone number.

Note: To make another call, do not hang up; press the star key (*) twice, then repeat step three.

Congratulations! You just saved a ton of money on your first of many international calls made from your iPhone via a prepaid phone card.

win with phone cardsPrepaid calling cards are very popular with people who constantly need to make long distance, international and local telephone calls without replacing their telephone service provider at home.

These prepaid calling cards are very convenient for people who find themselves far from their phones at home, especially since these cards allow them to make the calls that they need using any mobile phone or pay phone. Aside from this, the card is also very easy-to-use, and is also one of the best cost-saving alternatives for making long distance calls, as compared to your basic long distance provider who charges you monthly wherein you are being billed not only for the calls that you have made, but even for the calls that you didn’t. With prepaid calling cards, you are only paying for the amount of talk time that you will be using, which will save you a great deal of money in the long run.

To be competitive in the market place phone card suppliers come up with all sorts of ways to make their phone cards look cheaper. Unsuspecting customers generally buy their phone cards based only on the per minute cost of the phone call.

No Expiration Date on your Calling Cards

Did you know they now make calling cards with no expiration date? This means you no longer need to worry about your card expiring: you can buy it and use it for as long as you wish.

As far as I’ve seen on the web, there are a lot of people complaining about having bought a calling card, only using it once, and then when they wanted to use it again (after a year or so), they noticed that it had expired. Yeah, I’d get pretty mad too, if that happened to me!

But luckly, some companies have noticed this, and they solved the problem, offering phone cards that never expire. You can check out the offer of www.nobelcom.com, or find one of your own. You’ll save money on international calls without having to worry about your credit (for which you have already paid) expiring.
